White Deer’s Knauth Fires 4 Under Par at NCPGA Junior Event at Belles Springs GC

Mackeyville, PA—Beautiful weather welcomed a crowd of 35 junior golfers to Belles Springs Golf Course on Monday for the third stop on the 2017 NCPGA Junior Tour. The day brought many low scores, with many new faces emerging on top.

Eleven golfers played in the 18 Hole Advanced division, which was won by William Knauth of White Deer Golf Complex for his first win of the season. Knauth easily won overall medalist honors, scorching both nines in 34 to complete a 4-under round of 68, the lowest number the NCPGA has seen so far this year. Knauth cleared Matthew Storeman of Clinton Country Club by 5 strokes, as Storeman took second place with a 73. Tanner Adriance of River Valley Country Club rounded out the podium with a 75, and was closely followed by William Adair of Clinton CC, Ty Nordblom of Mountain View CC, and Quinn Hackenberg of Shade Mountain GC, who shot 76, 77, and 77, respectively.

In the 18 Hole Intermediate Flight, Joseph Propheta of Tyoga Country club also earned his first win of the year, showing strong resilience by firing a very impressible 92 after a challenging start to top the field of eight golfers. Frosty Valley’s Charlie Betz scored the silver by carding a 94, while John Duda of Clinton CC won the tight race for third in his first event of the year, coming home strong with a back-nine 45 to salvage a 98.

The 9 Hole Advanced division was home to several good scores today. William Gronlund of Bucknell Golf Club was the next new face at the top of the podium this week, firing a 45 to win the flight by 5 strokes. Another Bucknell golfer came in second, as Max Wirnsberger brought home a 50 for his second consecutive silver. Griffin Walizer of Clinton CC and Alexis Slaseman of Shade Mountain GC were right behind them, shooting rounds of 52 and 53, respectively.

The biggest story of the day came in the 9 Hole Intermediate Division, as TJ Steward shot an exceptional 41 to not only lead today’s intermediate flight, but to shoot the lowest round the entire 9 Hole Division has seen this year. TJ was the fourth new face on top today, and was trailed by Susquehanna Valley’s Mac DeFazio, who shot a 49 to place for his first time this year in the field of 7. Evan Swinehart and SVCC’s Zach Gose came in closely behind with impressive rounds as well, with Swinehart shooting 50 and Gose bringing in a 51.

Five golfers tested their skills on today’s 5 Hole Beginner course, which, not surprisingly, was home to more great results. Three junior golfers managed to go lower than anyone in the division had previously done this year, with Chase Wirnsberger of Bucknell GC shooting a career low 25, and Elizabeth Propheta of Tyoga CC and Reeze Walizer of Clinton CC each shooting rounds of 27.

Today’s event marked the third of six events in the NCPGA Junior Tournament series. The tour will make its next stop at Bucknell Golf Club on Monday, July 17. The NCPGA is thankful for its support from Blaise Alexander Family Dealership, Jersey Shore State Bank, and The Goulden Touch Foundation.
