Number One Seed, William Knauth takes Second Consecutive NCPGA Match Play Championship

Posted on

Montgomery, PA–William Knauth won his second straight NCPGA Match Play Invitational this Thursday, July 28th.  Potentially playing up to 72 holes over two days of competition, Knauth was never in trouble in any round of play at his home course of White Deer Golf Complex. Knauth was given a bye in his first round on Tuesday as the number one seed. Knauth then defeated Roman Reeder of Susquehanna Valley Country Club to advance to play on Thursday. Knauth early this morning played the four seed Morgan Sohosky of Tee-to-Green Golf Center. Knauth took off after the third hole and never looked back. On the back nine he made three birdies to secure his victory on hole 14 up six with four holes to play.   Knauth’s second match went the same way. After taking the lead on the second hole, he never lost the lead again. Of the fifteen holes he played he birdied half of them and his only misstep was a bogey on twelve. He won holes 2, 4, 5, 6, 13, and 15 to win four and three.

In the ‘Beaten’s’ Bracket Daniel Zimmerman of Nittany Country Club was your overall champion. ZImmerman’s tournament hit a bump in the first round when he played Morgan Sohosky. He was able to bounce back and win three matches in a row to take home the prize including his second round matchup against Benjamin Barnett to advance to the second day on Thursday. Zimmerman’s third round was highlighted by a surge on holes 3-7 where he went from an even match to four up. He slid slightly but was able to capitalize on an error made by William Adair of Clinton Country Club when he placed his tee shot into the woods. Zimmerman won that matchup three and two. In the Championship round Zimmerman never quite ran away with it, staying within reach of Nate Ewing of White Deer Golf Complex at three holes up. The deciding factor was holes sixteen and seventeen where Zimmerman went from a square match to winning 2 and 1.

The tour will make its next stop at Susquehanna Valley Country Club on Monday, August 1st.  The NCPGA is thankful for its support from Blaise Alexander Family Dealership, Jersey Shore State Bank, and Woodlands Bank.  For more information regarding the championship series visit www.ncpga.net
